Habitat surveys for Sunderland Local Wildlife Sites

Durham Wildlife Services carried out a review of all of Sunderland’s  Local Wildlife Sites on behalf of Sunderland City Council. This included a botanical survey of 60 candidate local wildlife sites (existing sites of nature conservation importance) using species list showing abundance (DAFOR) and local priority habitats. All sites were then tested fully against the appropriate local wildlife site criteria and sites were modified, denotfied and recommended where appropriate. Condition assessments and recommendations for management were also included within the citation. Boundary and habitat maps were produced for all of the sites in ARC GIS. The contract also involved negotiating access with a range of landowners. The project was completed to a high standard within one field survey season as requested by the client.
